During TBM operations, controlling water ingress is critical to ensure safe working conditions and secure maintenance interventions.

CONDAT offers two complementary solutions depending on operating conditions:

• In static conditions (TBM stopped), such as brush replacement operations or other maintenance interventions, 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐓 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊 is injected in between the shield brushes to create an effective sealing barrier and ensure safe intervention conditions.
• In dynamic conditions (TBM advancing), in case of leakage,  WRS emergency sealant can be injected using the standard tail sealant system (same pumps, lines and injection points). Reacting with water, WRS quickly blocks water, grout and soil fines ingress while allowing excavation to continue.

And in some exceptional situations, both solutions can even be used together. This is exactly what happened on a TBM Slurry project in the UK, facing a 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝟒.𝟓 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐬 during a cutterhead intervention.

The combination of WRS + CONDAT BLOCK enabled the customer to:

• stop water circulation along the shield
• secure the intervention under atmospheric pressure
• prevent any water ingress during the operation
